DIRECTIONS TO CANDIDATES

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST 

 Matric / Grade 12 

 Certificate of one year training as a Physiotherapy Assistant

 Current registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapy Assistant

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

 Knowledge of Physiotherapy clinical procedures and relevant equipment and practical 

application thereof.

 Knowledge of scope of practice and ethical and professional standards.

 Knowledge of Batho Pele principles, institutional and departmental policies and procedures, institutional administrative tasks, health and safety measures and infection control measures. 

 Good written and verbal communication skills.

 Good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively engage with patients with Mental Retardation.

 Good problem solving and time management skills.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 Implement prescribed therapeutic programs for individuals and groups, effectively, safely and efficiently to improve/maintain the functional status of Mental Health Care Users (MHCUs).

 Supervise and monitor MHCUs during treatment sessions to ensure their safety.

 Prepare MHCUs for specific clinical/treatment procedures and assist the Physiotherapist during clinical procedures.

 Ensure that MHCUs receive the prescribed assistive/mobility devices timeously and educate MHCUs and staff on the correct and safe use of such devices.

 Maintain an organized, clean and safe therapeutic and work environment.

 Assist with escorting of MHCUs to and from treatment areas as directed by supervisor.

 Assist in educating relevant stakeholders on Physiotherapy and related health topics.

 Be responsible for completing and submitting various requisitions. 

 Be responsible for receiving and storing stock items/consumables.

 Maintain statistics of own caseload.

 Undertake administrative duties as delegated.

 Demonstrate willingness to learn and keep abreast of professional developments to improve standards of patient care.
